Reshapes Senior Management Across CEO, Finance, and Compliance Functions

has unveiled a significant leadership restructuring, effective January 1, 2026, with Shashwat Sharma stepping into the role of Managing Director and CEO of Airtel India. The reshuffle, approved by the board on December 18, also elevates Gopal Vittal to Executive Vice Chairman and introduces changes across finance and compliance functions. The appointments mark a new phase in Airtel’s leadership framework, aligning with its long‑term strategic roadmap. Currently CEO‑designate, Sharma will formally assume the role of MD & CEO of Airtel India for a five‑year term, subject to shareholder approval. He will also be designated as a key managerial personnel, underscoring his central role in Airtel’s India operations. Vittal, who presently serves as Vice Chairman and Managing Director, will transition to Executive Vice Chairman and continue as a whole‑time director for five years. His new role reflects continuity in leadership while enabling strategic oversight at the group level. Somen Ray, currently CFO, will move up as Group CFO, overseeing financial strategy across Airtel’s global operations. Akhil Garg will step in as CFO for Airtel India, ensuring sharper focus on domestic financial management. Rohit Krishan Puri has been appointed Company Secretary and Compliance Officer effective January 1, 2026. Meanwhile, Pankaj Tewari will continue as Group Company Secretary, providing governance leadership at the group level. The leadership changes reflect Airtel’s intent to balance continuity with renewal. By elevating Sharma and Vittal while strengthening finance and compliance functions, Airtel is positioning itself for sustained growth in India’s competitive telecom market.
