Data-Driven Recoveries: Inside
SBIN
’s Last Digital Frontier

State Bank of India (

SBIN
) has initiated the development of its "Stressed Asset Lifecycle Management System." This project represents the automation of the bank’s final remaining manual business vertical, with full deployment targeted for January 2027. Unified Recovery Dashboard: The upcoming platform is designed to consolidate fragmented data on legacy non-performing assets (NPAs) into a centralized, real-time interface. It will track account statuses, ongoing legal proceedings, and institutional recovery actions simultaneously to accelerate decision-making. Addressing the Accountability Bottleneck: Historically, small-value legacy bad loans faced extensive delays due to multi-layered manual approvals and a general reluctance by staff to take ownership of resolutions. System transparency aims to eliminate these procedural hurdles. Historical Improvements in Asset Quality: The structural upgrade coincides with a two-decade low for SBI’s gross NPA ratio, which dropped to 1.49% (₹73,452 crore) as of March, down from 1.82% the previous year. This mirrors a broader stabilization across the Indian banking sector. Targeting Unclassified Stressed Assets: A significant portion of SBI's remaining bad loans—roughly 72% (₹52,947 crore)—is currently categorized under the unclassified "others" sector. The digitized oversight tool will primarily focus on maximizing recoveries from this specific pool.
