Government supercharges innovation and employment
The Union Cabinet has approved a substantial ₹2 trillion outlay to boost India's growth and employment through two key schemes: Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Scheme: Aims to fund private sector innovations in "sunrise sectors" (e.g., energy transition, AI, quantum computing, robotics, biotechnology). Provides long-term financing at low or nil interest rates. Funds will flow via 50-year interest-free loans to the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). Designed to address India's historically low R&D spending (under 0.7% of GDP). Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme: Allocates ₹1.07 trillion for the period of August 2025 to July 2027. Targets the creation of over 35 million new jobs within the next two years. Part of a broader ₹2 trillion Prime Minister's package focused on youth employment and skilling. Watch out emerging sectors like renewables, tech and automation.
