HCL Tech's Q1 FY26 Performance: Key Insights

HCLTECH
reported a sequential revenue decline of 3.3% in Q1 FY26. Its operating margin also saw a surprising contraction, despite the first quarter typically being seasonally weaker. New Deal Value Plummets: The total contract value (TCV) from new deals dropped significantly to an eight-quarter low of $1.8 billion. This decline was linked to postponed deal signings and a major vendor consolidation deal shifting to Q2. Revised Guidance & Margin Pressure: HCL has adjusted its FY26 revenue growth guidance to 3-5%. While management foresees a recovery in deal TCV for Q2, increased investments and lower utilization are expected to continue impacting margins. Persistent Sectoral Weakness: The company observed ongoing softness in key industry verticals, including retail, manufacturing, life sciences, and consumer packaged goods, affecting overall performance. HCL Tech's stock has recovered 18% from its 52-week low, bringing its valuation in line with competitors. While the company has potential for stronger organic growth in FY26, its current valuation leaves little room for any future disappointments.
