ICICIBANK
Delivers Strong Loan Growth, Lower Provisions

ICICIBANK
reported a robust Q4FY26, with loan growth at its fastest pace in two years (+15.8% YoY to ₹15.5 trillion) and sharply lower provisions boosting profitability. Asset quality improved meaningfully, with slippages and NPAs declining, while credit costs fell to multi-year lows. However, operating expenses rose faster than income, limiting core profit growth. Margins remained steady but softened YoY, reflecting interest rate transmission dynamics. Despite near-term pressures, the bank’s diversified loan growth and strong asset quality underpin a constructive outlook. Financial Performance Loans: ₹15.5 trillion (+15.8% YoY), led by home loans, rural lending, and business banking. Deposits: ~₹18 trillion (+11% YoY). Provisions: down 90% YoY, aided by lower retail slippages and recoveries from corporate loans. Asset quality: GNPA at 1.40% (–27bps QoQ), NNPA at 0.33% (–6bps). Credit cost: just 3bps, among lowest in recent years. Net income growth: 8% YoY, but opex (+12%) outpaced, limiting pre-provision operating profit growth to 3%. Treasury losses: ~₹100 crore due to RBI’s forex position unwinding mandate. Margins & Balance Sheet NIM: 4.32%, steady QoQ but down 9bps YoY. 56% of loans linked to external benchmarks; deposit repricing lag creates near-term margin pressure. Loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR): 86.6%, elevated but not seen as a funding constraint. Strategic Positioning Corporate lending gaining traction after muted years. Business banking loans up 24% YoY; rural advances +25%, supported by gold loans and distribution expansion. Exporter and MSME stress amid West Asia war remains a watchpoint. Valuation & Outlook Stock up 2% intraday post-results but down ~4% over past year vs Nifty Bank’s +2%. Valuations at ~2.6x FY27 book (Bloomberg consensus) leave room for upside if growth sustains. Strong asset quality, diversified loan growth, and easing credit costs support gradual re-rating.
