IRCTC
: Navigating Challenges with Predictable and Sustainable Growth

Despite underperforming the market recently,

IRCTC
holds a unique monopolistic position in India's travel and tourism sector. While some of its core businesses offer only modest growth, the company's earnings trajectory is predictable and is poised to benefit from structural tailwinds in the consumption and tourism sectors. → Mixed Q1 Performance: IRCTC's overall revenue grew by a modest 4% YoY in Q1 FY26. This growth was largely driven by a strong performance in tourism and internet ticketing, which saw an increase in non-ticketing revenue. The catering business declined, partly due to the absence of election-special trains and station upgradations. The Rail Neer business was also impacted by similar reasons and a shift to smaller bottle sizes. → Positive Outlook and Future Drivers: Internet ticketing is expected to be a key driver, supported by the introduction of new trains like Vande Bharat, which will also provide a fillip to catering and Rail Neer. The Rail Neer segment will benefit from new plants in Danapur and Ambernath, as well as several upcoming facilities. → Predictable Earnings and Limited Risk: Most of IRCTC's business segments saw improved margins in Q1 FY26. The company's earnings trajectory is considered predictable and low-risk, as railway travel and budget tourism are less vulnerable to economic downturns. The management anticipates a 12%+ compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in earnings between FY25-FY27. However, future growth is largely dependent on significant capacity additions in passenger trains, as the internet ticketing penetration has already reached over 87%. → Valuation and Investment Appeal: The company's stable and predictable earnings journey makes it an attractive investment, especially in the current climate of global uncertainty.
