Expands Power Portfolio with Strategic Acquisitions ⚡
Acquisition of GE Power's Boiler Unit:
JSWENERGY
y is set to acquire the boiler manufacturing facility of GE Power India (GEPIL) in Durgapur through a strategic demerger. The deal, a share-swap arrangement, will see JSW Energy issue 10 equity shares for every 139 shares held by GEPIL shareholders. This move aims to achieve vertical integration, reduce dependence on third-party suppliers, and improve cost efficiencies for its thermal power business.
Rationale for the Deal: The acquisition of the boiler unit will provide JSW Energy with greater control over critical components for its thermal power assets, enabling increased production capacity. This aligns with the company's long-term vision of expanding its energy portfolio and supports its future thermal projects, creating value for shareholders.
Hydro Power Acquisition: In a separate development, JSW Neo Energy, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, is acquiring Tidong Power Generation. This acquisition, valued at ₹1,728 crore, includes a 150 MW under-construction hydro-power project. This will be JSW Energy's fourth hydro asset and a significant addition to its portfolio, helping the company achieve its ambitious target of 30 GW of renewable capacity by FY30.
Market and Sector Outlook: Analysts are optimistic about JSW Energy's future. Jefferies has issued a "Buy" call on the stock, citing a management forecast of a higher-than-expected capacity addition in FY26. India's total installed power capacity has reached 485 GW, with clean energy now accounting for 50%, a milestone achieved five years ahead of its Paris Agreement target. This momentum, combined with an increasing trend of state distribution companies procuring thermal power, provides a favorable backdrop for JSW Energy's strategic expansions.
