The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved increasing NTPC Ltd's investment limit for renewable energy projects from Rs 7,500 crore to Rs 20,000 crore.
This enhanced cap supports NTPC Group’s short-term target of achieving 19 GW of renewable energy capacity by FY27, which will require an estimated Rs 1 lakh crore in investments.
Currently, NTPC operates around 6 GW of renewable energy capacity.
The Group’s long-term vision is to expand renewable capacity to 60 GW by FY32, demanding investments of at least Rs 5 lakh crore.
The relaxed investment norms apply exclusively to NTPC’s renewable energy projects, not extending to nuclear projects under NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Ltd (NPUNL).
This move is expected to accelerate India’s transition to clean energy, bolster reliability of power supply, and create substantial employment opportunities during project construction and operation phases#StockInNews#FundamentalViews
