Orkla India Q2 revenue rises 19.4% to ₹776 crore
Orkla India Limited reported 19.4% YoY revenue growth to ₹776 crore in Q2 FY27. Net profit rose 19.2% to ₹91 crore, led by strong growth in the spices portfolio, while volume growth remained muted at 2.9%. The standout performer was the spices business, where revenue increased 25.1% to ₹498 crore. Management highlighted broad-based growth across regions, including a turnaround in Kerala, which had been a weak market for several quarters. Digital commerce also remained strong, growing 23% YoY and contributing 10% of domestic revenue. What matters most is the gap between revenue growth and volume growth. A large part of the topline expansion came from pricing actions rather than a sharp increase in product consumption. Management itself acknowledged that volume growth remains an area of concern. This is important because sustained FMCG growth is usually more durable when driven by volumes rather than price hikes. The other key point is margin pressure. EBITDA grew 12.6% to ₹124 crore, but EBITDA margin declined to 15.9% from 16.9% due to higher spice input costs and investments under Project Bolt. While the company expects margins to improve as recent price increases flow through and transformation costs taper off, investors should watch whether commodity inflation cools without affecting demand. Positively, Orkla continues to invest in product innovation, digital channels and potential acquisitions in spices and convenience foods. These initiatives can support future growth, but execution and volume recovery will be critical. View: Revenue and profit growth remain healthy, but the next leg of earnings growth will depend on stronger volume expansion and margin recovery, not just pricing-led gains.
