Pilani Investment to Divest ₹1,909 Crore Stake in UltraTech Cement

$PILANIINVS , a key holding company for the Aditya Birla Group, is launching a secondary market block trade to sell a 0.57% stake in UltraTech Cement Ltd, aiming to raise up to ₹1,909 crore ($200 million). Transaction Terms & Discount: The deal offloads approximately 1.7 million shares at a floor price of ₹11,481 apiece—a 3% discount to UltraTech's closing market price of ₹11,836 on August 12. Jefferies India is managing the trade as sole bookrunner, with a mandatory 60-day lock-up for the seller. Impact on Ownership: As a Non-Banking Financial Company Core Investment Company (NBFC-CIC), Pilani Investment focuses on long-term group holdings rather than frequent trading. It currently holds 1.5% of UltraTech, while promoter group entities collectively retain a controlling majority of over 59%. Part of a Wider Liquidity Trend: This transaction coincides with a broader momentum of secondary-market exits in India, where prominent early backers and private equity investors (such as Temasek, SoftBank, Elevation Capital, and Peak XV) have recently realized sizeable profits in companies like Lenskart, Paytm, Meesho, and Shadowfax. Supported by Solid Financials: The stake sale comes on the heels of strong Q1 FY27 results for UltraTech. India’s largest cement producer posted a 17% YoY surge in net profit to ₹2,599 crore and a 16% rise in revenue to ₹24,648 crore, driven by double-digit volume growth and 81% capacity utilization
