Premier Energies plans ₹5k cr QIP for backward integration
Premier Energies Limited (
PREMIERENE
) plans to raise ₹5,000 crore via a QIP to fund upstream manufacturing. The capital will support expansion into ingot, wafer, and TOPCon cell capacity, strengthening backward integration.
The market views this expansion as a critical operational pivot. Currently trading around ₹899, down 21 percent from its 52-week high of ₹1,134, the company is attempting to insulate itself from component price volatility. Holding an order backlog of ₹15,000 crore, domestic-content requirement module capacity is fully booked through FY28. Cell-to-module integration sits at nearly 67 percent with operating margins around 30 percent. Expanding into ingots and wafers reduces dependency on imported Chinese inputs and allows better margin retention on domestic solar projects under government schemes. In addition, increasing transformer capacity from 4 GVA to 16.25 GVA provides a second vertical for international expansion.
Headline focus on capacity growth misses the structural cost protection that full backward integration offers. Internalizing the supply chain protects margin stability against global raw material fluctuations. At roughly 20 times estimated FY28 earnings, current valuations reflect reasonable execution assumptions. However, ramp-up schedules and global supply pressures remain operational risks to monitor.
Investors should closely watch trial runs and commercial utilization at the 7 GW Naidupeta cell facility alongside the execution timeline for upstream ingot and wafer production.
The stock offers a constructive long-term outlook anchored by integrated operational scale, provided capacity execution remains on schedule.
