Symbiotec Pharmalab posts 7% revenue growth, profit halves

Symbiotec Pharmalab Limited [

SYMBIOTEC
] reported a 7 percent year-on-year growth in consolidated revenue for Q1 FY27. Net profit nearly halved during the quarter due to rising operational expenses and higher depreciation linked to new growth initiatives. The sharp drop in net profit reflects execution costs rather than weakness in core operations. While gross margins expanded to 65 percent from 62 percent in Q1 FY26, EBITDA margins compressed to 21 percent from 28 percent. The company is actively investing in double chamber technology for complex injectables and expanding its bio-CDMO capacity. Headline profit numbers mask the structural transition underway. Over 56 percent of the company's total capex of Rs 1,475 crore is allocated to new growth engines, which are yet to generate full revenue. Commercialisation of key double-chamber vial products and long-term take-or-pay agreements in the CDMO space offer strong revenue visibility. With legacy API facilities operating at high capacity and the stock trading at a valuation discount to peers like Concord Biotech and Laurus Labs, the margin pressure appears temporary. Investors should track the commercial execution of double-chamber vial products scheduled for FY28, regulatory approvals in the US market, and margin recovery over the next two to four quarters. For long-term investors, accumulating the stock on dips presents a favorable risk-reward opportunity.
