Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has signed its inaugural Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with NHPC
Limited to deliver a 30 MW / 120 MWh battery storage system at a key substation in Kerala
The Kerala BESS project will help manage peak electricity demand, boost grid flexibility, and facilitate the smooth integration of renewable sources into Kerala’s electricity system.
This initiative is core to NHPC’s broader goal of installing 125 MW / 500 MWh of standalone battery storage across Kerala, under the government’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding and Viability Gap Funding schemes.
The battery storage push is aligned with India’s target to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power by 2030, with the project to operate under a 12-year contract and slated for commissioning within 15 months.
Prior to this, TPREL had delivered a solar-plus-storage project in Chhattisgarh (100 MW solar, 120 MWh BESS). With the new win, TPREL’s total renewable pipeline stands at 10.9 GW (5.6 GW operational; 5.3 GW under development), underscoring its leadership in dispatchable and sustainable energy solutions.#StockInNews#FundamentalViews
