Drives Into Premium Passenger Vehicle Seating Market
Auto components manufacturer
UNOMINDA
has announced its entry into the high-value passenger vehicle seating market via a strategic joint venture with Japan’s Tachi-S Co.
Production Facility Investment: The company is investing ₹320 crore to build a new manufacturing plant capable of producing approximately 240,000 seating units annually, having already secured an anchor order from a major original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Revenue Growth Potential: While the initial facility is small relative to Uno Minda’s ₹19,658 crore FY26 revenue, Nomura estimates the investment will yield around ₹800 crore by FY28, capitalizing on high-value seating components that range from ₹20,000 to ₹70,000 per vehicle.
Capitalizing on Premiumization: The expansion directly aligns with evolving Indian consumer preferences toward SUVs and premium models that demand advanced seating features like ventilation, power adjustment, lumbar support, and integrated safety systems.
Broader Expansion Roadmap: Alongside seating, the company is aggressively expanding its broader portfolio, backed by an allocated ₹1,750 crore capex for FY27 to scale its lighting business, EV powertrain facility in Khed, sunroofs, and infotainment systems.
Optimistic Market Outlook: Backed by rising per-vehicle component values, analysts at Motilal Oswal project revenue to hit ₹27,591 crore by FY28, though investors remain watchful of potential project delays or slower consumer adoption.
