Wipro reports $2.6 billion deal wins amid weak outlook
Wipro Limited (
WIPRO
) reported flat Q2FY27 IT services revenue growth in constant currency.
The key number was $2.6 billion in total contract value (TCV) bookings, down 22.9% sequentially, with large-deal wins falling 58.6% to $674 million.
What happened: Wipro’s Q2FY27 IT services revenue was flat sequentially, ahead of expectations for a decline. Growth was led by the consumer vertical, while healthcare remained under pressure. The company guided for Q3 constant-currency revenue growth of-1.5% to +0.5%, pointing to another soft quarter. Management said two deals slipped into the December quarter because of signing delays.
Why it matters: For IT services companies, bookings today drive revenue tomorrow. While Wipro says its deal pipeline remains strong, investors are focused on conversion. The sharp decline in deal wins comes at a time when peers such as TCS, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra reported positive sequential growth, widening the competitive gap.
My view: The headline focus on delayed deal signings misses the bigger issue. Wipro's challenge is not pipeline creation but turning wins into revenue quickly enough to support growth. The company continues to improve profitability, with EBIT margin rising to 16.5%, helped by operational efficiencies and currency benefits. However, margin gains alone are unlikely to rerate the stock if revenue growth stays below peers. Continued investment in AI platforms and talent may also limit near-term margin expansion.
What to watch next: Investors should track whether the delayed contracts are signed in Q3, the pace of large-deal conversion into revenue, and whether management can narrow the growth gap with peers. Until revenue visibility improves, the valuation discount to larger IT peers may persist.
View: Margin improvement is encouraging, but sustained revenue recovery remains the key trigger to watch.
