AXISBANK
has announced a plan to raise up to ₹5,000 crore through the issuance of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis, as per its latest exchange filing. The issue will comprise a base amount of ₹2,000 crore and a green-shoe option of ₹3,000 crore, forming part of the bank’s broader strategy to tap up to ₹35,000 crore from debt markets.
Key details
The debt securities are being issued to optimize the resource profile, support business growth, and diversify long-term funding sources.
These NCDs will be senior, unsecured instruments, redeemable at par, and are aimed at institutional and large investors through a private placement route.
This comes shortly after the bank reported a 26% YoY drop in Q2FY26 net profit to ₹5,090 crore due to a one-time standard asset provision, higher opex, and slower core income expansion.
Market/sector impact
The fundraising will provide Axis Bank with balance sheet flexibility—supporting credit expansion, capital adequacy, and future investment requirements—while also testing institutional appetite for Indian private sector NCDs amid evolving market conditions. Investors will watch for final pricing and subscription as indicators of market sentiment toward bank debt risk at this stage of the interest rate cycle.
