BANKBARODA
reported a 71.8% year-on-year decline in standalone net profit to ₹1,278 crore for the first quarter of FY27, primarily due to a one-time exceptional settlement related to the NMC Healthcare case. Excluding this exceptional item, the bank's core operating performance remained resilient, supported by healthy business growth and stable asset quality. The bank's Net Interest Income (NII) increased 2.8% year-on-year to ₹11,435 crore, while operating profit rose around 8% to ₹7,336 crore. Business growth remained healthy, with global advances increasing 17% year-on-year and global deposits rising 13%. Asset quality continued to improve, with the Gross NPA ratio declining to 2.15% from 2.88% a year earlier and the Net NPA ratio improving to 0.56% from 0.69%. The bank also maintained a strong capital position, reflecting its ability to support future lending despite the one-time impact. Industry & Economic Impact: The results demonstrate that one-off exceptional expenses can temporarily affect reported earnings without altering the underlying strength of a bank's core operations. Continued loan growth, improving asset quality, and stable operating income indicate that India's public sector banking sector remains fundamentally healthy despite isolated extraordinary charges. From an economic perspective, strong credit growth and healthier balance sheets enable banks to continue financing infrastructure, MSMEs, retail borrowers, and corporate expansion. Improving asset quality across the banking system also enhances financial stability and supports sustained economic growth. Source: Economic Times No Recommendations
