Federal Bank profit rises 45% as asset quality improves

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Federal Bank Limited (

FEDERALBNK
) reported a record standalone net profit of ₹1,386 crore in Q2 FY27, up 45.1% year-on-year. What happened? Net interest income increased 26.4% to ₹3,153 crore, while operating profit grew 35.4% to ₹2,225 crore. Net interest margin improved to 3.32%. The bank's total business crossed ₹6.4 lakh crore, with advances exceeding ₹3 lakh crore. Total deposits grew 18.6% year-on-year to ₹3.43 lakh crore. Asset quality also improved. Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.32% from 1.52% in the previous quarter, while net NPAs fell to 0.17%. Why does it matter? Profit growth alongside stronger net interest income indicates improved core banking performance. Lower NPAs also suggest better asset quality, although continued loan growth must be balanced with prudent underwriting. My view The results show broad-based improvement in earnings and asset quality. Sustaining this performance will depend on maintaining margins, managing deposit costs and keeping credit losses under control. What I am watching next I would track net interest margins, deposit growth, advances, credit costs and asset quality to assess whether the bank can sustain its operating momentum.
