JSW Cement to invest ₹11,000 crore to double capacity to 41 mt in 3 years

JSWCEMENT
plans to invest ₹11,000 crore over the next three years to almost double its installed capacity from about 20 million tonnes to 41 million tonnes, as it looks to climb into the top tier of India’s cement producers and prepare for a potential IPO. The expansion will be driven largely by new clinker and grinding units across high-growth markets in the North, West and South, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab, alongside brownfield debottlenecking at existing sites. Management has indicated that the capex will be funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt, with an eye on keeping leverage at comfortable levels ahead of listing. The company is also targeting longer-term capacity of around 60 million tonnes, which would be achieved in a second phase beyond FY28, depending on demand conditions and project execution. JSW Cement is positioning itself as a leader in green cement, focusing on higher-blended products that use industrial by-products like slag and fly ash to reduce clinker use and lower emissions. The planned capacity additions are expected to improve logistics efficiency, deepen market reach and strengthen profitability through scale benefits, especially in infrastructure- and housing-led growth corridors. If executed on schedule, the expansion could materially enhance JSW Cement’s competitive positioning ahead of its proposed IPO and intensifying industry consolidation.
