Manipal Hospitals Repays ₹5,310 Crore NCDs

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 Manipal Health Enterprises Limited (

MANIPALHOS
), which operates Manipal Hospitals, has fully redeemed ₹5,310 crore of NCDs issued by its wholly owned subsidiary using part of its IPO proceeds. The repayment included principal, accrued interest and applicable prepayment costs. What happened? The NCDs were originally issued in September 2025 at a 9.03% annual coupon and had a two-year tenure. The IPO prospectus had identified repayment of this acquisition-linked debt as one of the uses of the fresh issue proceeds. Why does it matter? This is more than a routine debt repayment. Manipal had used the NCDs to fund its expansion, including the acquisition of Sahyadri Hospitals. Redeeming them now changes the funding structure created by that expansion. My view The key benefit is the removal of a relatively high-cost debt obligation. At a 9.03% coupon, ₹5,310 crore of principal represented a gross annual coupon outflow of roughly ₹480 crore, before considering the actual repayment timing and accrued interest. The improvement in leverage will matter more if the company can retain the earnings generated by its expanded hospital network while reducing financing costs. What I am watching next The key metrics are interest expense, net debt, EBITDA and cash generation in the coming quarters. These will show whether the IPO-funded deleveraging is translating into a sustained improvement in the balance sheet rather than simply replacing one source of funding with another.
