Persistent Systems Bets Big on Europe With Nagarro Acquisition

$PERSISTENT has launched a voluntary public takeover offer to acquire German digital engineering firm Nagarro SE, marking one of the largest overseas acquisitions by an Indian IT services company. The deal, if completed, will create an AI-led digital engineering company with an annual revenue run rate of nearly $2.9 billion and a workforce of over 46,000 employees across more than 40 countries. Persistent is offering €81 per share, representing a significant premium over Nagarro's previous market price. The company has already secured the support of Nagarro's largest shareholder, which owns around 21% of the company, while Nagarro's management has also backed the proposal. The acquisition will substantially strengthen Persistent's presence in Europe, increasing the region's contribution to revenue from 9% to around 22%, while expanding its capabilities in AI, cloud, ERP, customer experience, and digital engineering. Industry & Economic Impact: The acquisition reflects the growing global ambitions of Indian IT companies as they pursue large international acquisitions to scale AI and digital transformation capabilities. The combined entity will have a broader client base, a larger addressable market exceeding $1.4 trillion, and stronger positions across key sectors including BFSI, healthcare, technology, industrial, and consumer businesses. From an economic perspective, the deal enhances India's position as a global technology services leader and demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of Indian IT firms in cross-border acquisitions. It is expected to boost export revenues, create opportunities for high-skilled talent, and strengthen India's presence in the rapidly expanding AI and digital engineering market, while encouraging further consolidation within the global IT services industry.
