Railway Stocks Rally Up to 12% as New Passenger Fares Take Effect; Street Bets on Better Rail Finances and Budget Tailwinds
Railway-linked stocks such as
RVNL
,
IRFC
,
IRCTC
,
IRCON
and
JWL
surged up to about 10–12% as Indian Railways’ revised passenger fares kicked in from December 26, marking the second fare hike in 2025. In the session highlighted, RVNL rose to about ₹379.20 (+~9.7%) and IRFC to about ₹129.60 (+~6.7%), while Jupiter Wagons and IRCTC also traded higher.
The fare revision impacts multiple long-distance premium and mail/express services, while tickets booked before December 26 remain unaffected, helping limit immediate passenger backlash. The ministry also noted that the prior July 2025 fare hike has already generated about ₹700 crore of revenue, reinforcing expectations that higher collections can support rail capex and financial sustainability.
