RBL Bank Plans to Raise Up to $1 Billion Overseas

Research Analyst: UJVIN NEVATIA (PROPRIETOR: NEVAT INVESTMENTS) | SEBI Registration No.: INH100009628 RBL Bank (

RBLBANK
) has approved a plan to raise up to $1 billion from overseas investors through a Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) Programme. The bank's borrowing committee has been authorised to take the necessary steps for the proposed fundraising. What Is an EMTN Programme? An EMTN programme is a framework that allows an issuer to raise funds in international debt markets through multiple bond issuances over time, subject to applicable terms and regulations. Instead of raising the entire amount at once, the issuer may issue notes in one or more tranches. For RBL Bank, the approval provides flexibility to access overseas funding markets when required. The actual amount raised, timing, currency, tenure and cost of borrowing will depend on market conditions and the terms of individual issuances. Why Does Overseas Fundraising Matter? Overseas borrowing can help banks diversify their funding sources and access foreign currency. However, the overall cost depends not only on the interest rate but also on factors such as currency hedging costs and the use of the funds. The proposed $1 billion programme represents a fundraising limit and approval, not necessarily an immediate borrowing of the full amount. The eventual financial impact will depend on how much funding is raised and the terms of each issuance. Source: The Economic Times No Recommendations
