SBIN
has raised an additional $200 million by tapping its existing three-year senior unsecured floating-rate bond maturing in July 2029. The bonds carry a coupon of 100 basis points above the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR). The successful tap issue increases the total size of the bond issuance, allowing SBI to strengthen its long-term funding base while leveraging favourable conditions in the international debt market. The overseas fundraise forms part of SBI's broader strategy to diversify its funding sources and support future lending requirements. The bank has been actively accessing global capital markets following the Reserve Bank of India's measures to lower the cost of foreign currency borrowings, enabling Indian financial institutions to raise overseas funds more efficiently. Industry & Economic Impact: The successful bond issuance reflects strong global investor confidence in India's banking sector and the credit profile of its largest lender. Access to overseas debt markets enables banks to diversify funding sources, improve liquidity, and reduce reliance on domestic borrowings, strengthening their ability to support credit growth. From an economic perspective, greater access to international capital helps banks finance infrastructure projects, corporate lending, and retail credit, supporting investment and economic growth. It also reinforces India's integration with global financial markets and demonstrates continued foreign investor appetite for high-quality Indian issuers. Source: Economic Times No Recommendations
