Tata Motors begins trials of hydrogen-powered heavy duty trucks for long haul transportation

TATAMOTORS
has initiated India's first trials of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, marking a significant step towards sustainable transportation. Funded under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the 24-month trial will deploy 16 advanced hydrogen-powered vehicles, including both Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (H2-FCEV) technologies. These trucks will operate on key freight routes such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Surat, Vadodara, Jamshedpur, and Kalinganagar. Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Joshi flagged off the initiative, emphasizing hydrogen's potential to transform India's transportation sector by reducing emissions and enhancing energy self-reliance. The trial aims to assess the commercial viability of hydrogen-powered trucks and develop the necessary supporting infrastructure, aligning with India's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
