Tata Stocks Take a Hit: Trent & TCS Top List of Worst Nifty Performers in 2025

In 2025 so far, two prominent Tata Group companies —

TRENT
and
TCS
— have emerged as the worst performers on the Nifty 50 index, each logging a drop of over 25%. TCS, India's largest IT services firm, is down around 27% year-to-date. The fall comes amid ongoing global macroeconomic uncertainties, a slowdown in tech spending, and muted earnings growth across the IT sector. Despite continued client engagements and digital transformation deals, the high base valuation and slower revenue growth have weighed on investor sentiment. Meanwhile, Trent, the retail arm of Tata Group known for brands like Westside and Zudio, has seen a correction of about 25% in 2025. While the company continues to grow its retail footprint aggressively, concerns around overvaluation and rising input costs have likely triggered profit booking. The stock had previously seen a sharp rally on strong growth expectations, making it vulnerable to corrections. Analysts suggest that both stocks are not fundamentally weak, but the high valuations and sector-specific headwinds have led to underperformance. For TCS, margin pressures and delays in large deal ramp-ups remain key concerns. For Trent, the focus is on how efficiently it can scale while protecting its margins. Despite the underperformance, many analysts still view these stocks as long-term bets given the companies’ fundamentals, strong parentage, and leadership positions in their sectors. However, investors may need to brace for continued volatility in the short term. Source: The Economic Times No Recommendations
