Q1 Earnings Underwhelm — Reliance & YES Bank Shine Amid Weakness

Market Sentiment Update: Q1 Earnings Underwhelm,

RELIANCE
&
YESBANK
Shine Amid Gloom. Over the past few sessions, the Indian equity markets have reacted cautiously as major Q1 FY26 earnings have failed to surpass Street expectations. TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech – Missed revenue estimates despite margin resilience. Axis Bank – NIM compression and higher provisioning dented profitability. ICICI Lombard, HUL – Soft guidance and muted volume growth reflected consumer stress. These underwhelming numbers have triggered short-term profit booking in heavyweight counters, particularly in IT, FMCG, and select banking names, raising questions about earnings quality. However, not everything is gloomy. -> Reliance Industries surprised the Street with a robust all-round performance — strong growth in retail, telecom, and O2C segments, along with exceptional one-time investment gains. -> YES Bank showed a major turnaround — reporting the highest-ever quarterly net profit and improved asset quality, signaling strong retail and MSME traction. In the current weak sentiment, all eyes are now on: Bajaj Finance & Bajaj Finserv (B2 Twins) – Both are seen as strong sentiment drivers. If these two deliver better-than-expected numbers, it could lend much-needed psychological and technical support to the broader markets. Bajaj Finance & Finserv together hold significant weight in Nifty Financial Services Index, which is a major contributor to Nifty’s direction. Their loan book growth, NIM trajectory, and asset quality will be key metrics to track. "Bottom Line" The Q1 earnings season has so far been a mixed bag, with more misses than beats. Unless heavyweight names surprise on the upside, index momentum may continue to remain sluggish. Stay selective, focus on stock-specific plays, and wait for clarity from key financials before going aggressive.
