It provides a marketplace for trading in equities, derivatives, debt instruments, mutual funds, etc. Trades are executed electronically via its trading platform. It is regulated by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India). It also has a subsidiary exchange “India INX” at GIFT City (an international exchange) under its umbrella. Market Role & Strengths BSE has a very large number of listings (several thousand companies). It publishes benchmark indices, most notably Sensex (composed of 30 large companies). It’s known for relatively wide reach (many small / mid companies list on BSE). It competes with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in India.
