🏛️ CAMS Ltd – The Backbone of India’s Mutual Fund Industry Business Profile CAMS Ltd is India’s largest Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA) for mutual funds. In simple terms, it runs the entire back-office system that ensures SIPs, lump-sum investments, redemptions, folio management, and investor records work smoothly for most of the country’s major mutual fund companies (AMCs). Unlike AMCs, which compete for investors and market performance, CAMS operates as market infrastructure. It does not take market risk, does not manage money, and does not sell funds. Instead, it earns by servicing transactions and assets under management (AUM). What CAMS Actually Does (On the Ground) CAMS sits between investors, AMCs, and regulators. Its systems handle: Folio creation and maintenance when an investor opens a mutual fund account Transaction processing for SIPs, purchases, redemptions, and switches KYC and compliance services, ensuring regulatory onboarding and reporting Statements and reporting, including capital gains, tax statements, and portfolio summaries Digital infrastructure, including co-running the MF Central platform (with NSDL), which allows investors to view and manage all their mutual fund investments in one place Beyond mutual funds, CAMS has expanded into insurance repositories, AIF and PMS servicing, and account aggregator services, which gives it additional growth avenues outside traditional MF operations.
