Some of the core services CDSL provides include: Dematerialization / Rematerialization — converting physical securities into electronic form and vice versa Transfer / Settlement — updating ownership and ensuring trades settle properly Pledging / Unpledging of securities Corporate actions processing — dividends, bonus issues, rights, etc., credited directly to investors’ accounts Value-added services like e-Voting, mobile apps, e-locker, data analytics, etc. Competitive & Market Position In terms of number of DEMAT accounts, CDSL has been among the largest depositories in India. It competes with NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited), the other major depository in India. CDSL is listed on Indian stock exchanges, making it among the relatively few market infrastructure firms available to equity investors. Financial / Operational Highlights (Recent) CDSL is largely debt-free or maintains very low borrowings. It earns revenue largely from fees tied to securities services (demat, transfers, corporate actions) and value-added services. It enjoys good return metrics (ROE, ROCE) historically, thanks to its scalable, low-capital business model.
