Recent Developments and Outlook:
Regulatory Issues: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently imposed a penalty of ₹75 lakh on ICICI Bank for non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements related to property valuations and the opening of current accounts.
Changes to Savings Accounts: Effective August 1, 2025, ICICI Bank has significantly increased the minimum average balance (MAB) requirement for new savings accounts in metro and urban areas, to ₹50,000 from ₹10,000. This move has garnered attention and some public backlash, with many comparing it to other private and public sector banks.
Analyst Consensus: Despite some of these challenges, a majority of analysts have a positive view on the stock. Motilal Oswal Financial Services, for example, maintains a "Buy" rating with a target price of ₹1,670, citing the bank's consistent earnings, healthy asset quality, and robust balance sheet.
