CMD's Reappointment: NTPC's shareholders have approved a one-year extension for Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Gurdeep Singh. This decision follows the government's approval of his re-employment on a contract basis, which will see him continue to lead the company until July 31, 2026. This move comes after the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) did not find a suitable candidate from the dozen interviewed for the top post.
Internal Restructuring: The NTPC board has approved a plan to transfer its coal mining business to its wholly-owned subsidiary, NTPC Mining Limited (NML). This transfer, valued at approximately ₹10,503 crore as of March 31, 2025, will be executed through a slump sale arrangement. The coal mining business contributed about ₹7,735 crore in revenue in FY25, representing 4.05% of the company's consolidated revenue.
