REC Limited is a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It functions as a leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) dedicated to financing and promoting power projects across the entire value chain: generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy. Beyond traditional power, REC is also expanding its financing for new-age technologies like Electric Vehicles (EVs), Battery Storage, Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), Green Hydrogen, and Green Ammonia projects. As a key financier and nodal agency for various government schemes, REC plays a vital role in realizing India's ambitious energy goals. It is also a subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
Key Business Operations:
Financial Assistance: Provides long-term loans and financial products to Central/State Sector Power Utilities, State Electricity Boards, Rural Electric Cooperatives, Independent Power Producers, and Private Power Developers.
Project Monitoring & Consultancy: Offers technical appraisal, project monitoring, and consultancy services.
Nodal Agency: Acts as a nodal agency for various government schemes aimed at rural electrification and universal access to electricity (e.g., Saubhagya scheme).
Diversification: Increasingly financing infrastructure development projects beyond power, such as metros, airports, roads, ports, water & sanitation, and social infrastructure, especially those with self-sustaining revenue models.
