GRSE Approves Huge ₹2,896 Cr Shipyard Capex
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) is making major headlines in the Indian stock market. The state-owned defence PSU's board has officially cleared a massive capital budgetary outlay of ₹2,896 crore. This substantial capital investment is earmarked for building a brand-new Greenfield Shipyard at Raichak in West Bengal.
The finalized ₹2,896 crore outlay marks a significant upward revision from the initial baseline estimate of ₹2,500 crore proposed in August 2026. This 15.8% budget bump signals the board's clear intent to fast-track modern infrastructure development.
The upcoming Raichak shipyard is strategically designed to expand execution parameters. It will feature a comprehensive 200-metre dry dock alongside cutting-edge slipways and fabrication bays. This will allow GRSE to build much larger warships and commercial vessels concurrently.
This landmark decision comes at a time when the Indian defence sector is experiencing an unprecedented push towards domestic manufacturing. It strongly aligns with the central government's ambitious "Make in India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives.
