NLC India Limited Bags ₹37,000 Cr Odisha Deals
NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has taken a monumental stride toward strategic business diversification by signing multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL). The comprehensive framework establishes high-value ventures spanning clean energy technologies, power generation, and heavy mineral processing, with a total investment footprint exceeding ₹37,000 crore.
NLC India is evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of setting up a state-of-the-art coal gasification facility. The project aims to convert domestic coal resources into synthesis gas (Syn-Gas), opening vital linkages for downstream applications in the fertiliser sector as an alternate industrial feedstock.
The agreement maps out a dedicated beach sand mineral processing plant backed by a tentative investment of ₹2,000 crore. This facility will focus on extracting high-value resources like ilmenite, rutile, and zircon—essential for aerospace, titanium products, and electronics—and is expected to generate 500 jobs.
The largest piece of this expansion is a proposed 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical coal-based thermal power plant consisting of four 800 MW units. Estimated at ₹35,000 crore, this project aims to secure energy demands while creating around 4,000 regional employment opportunities.
