US Slaps 126% Solar Duty⚡
The US Commerce Department has imposed steep preliminary duties of 126% on solar imports from India, alleging unfair subsidies that enabled Indian exporters to undercut American manufacturers. The move directly impacts Indian solar module makers with US exposure, including Waaree Energies, Vikram Solar, Tata Power Solar, RenewSys, Goldi Solar, and Solex Energy. Listed players such as Waaree Energies, Insolation Energy, Solex Energy, and Websol Energy could see sentiment-driven volatility depending on their export mix. While the tariff clouds near-term export visibility, the domestic story remains structurally strong. India’s PLI incentives, ALMM framework, and aggressive renewable capacity targets continue to support local demand. The real question now is strategic, will Indian manufacturers pivot harder toward domestic growth and alternative export markets, or accelerate overseas manufacturing to bypass trade barriers? The solar supply chain narrative just got more geopolitical.
