Tata Power Partners With Norway’s Ocean Sun For Solar Tech

Tata Power one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has officially joined forces with Norway-based renewable energy technology innovator, Ocean Sun. This landmark partnership introduces a pioneering, membrane-based floating solar technology to the Indian clean energy landscape. As the initial phase of this strategic collaboration, both companies will deploy a specialized 300-kWp floating solar pilot project at Tata Power's historical Mulshi reservoir located in Maharashtra. This site will serve as the testing ground for a revolutionary design that fundamentally changes how floating solar plants operate on water bodies. Unlike traditional floating solar installations that rely on heavy, rigid pontoon structures to hold standard photovoltaic modules, Ocean Sun’s proprietary technology utilizes a thin, flexible polymer membrane. The solar modules are affixed directly to this large, floating protective blanket. By resting flat against the water's surface, the system achieves remarkable structural and thermodynamic advantages. For India, this pilot represents a critical step forward in expanding renewable energy capacity without intense land acquisition conflicts. As land availability becomes a premium constraint for massive ground-mounted solar farms, utilizing India’s abundant reservoirs, lakes, and coastal waters provides a highly scalable alternative.

CHENNAI PETROLEUM — REFINING THE OPPORTUNITY 🛢️📈

CHENNPETRO
When crude turns into fuel, operational efficiency turns into earnings. And Chennai Petroleum is showing what a strong refining cycle can deliver. CPCL, an IndianOil group company, operates a major refinery at Manali, Tamil Nadu, supplying fuels, lubricants and petrochemical feedstocks. In 2026, it also earned Navratna status, strengthening its strategic importance. FY26 was a landmark year. The company processed a record 11.71 million tonnes of crude, operating at around 112% of installed capacity. Consolidated revenue reached ₹78,611 crore, while PAT stood at ₹3,103 crore. And FY27 began with a powerful earnings recovery. Q1 revenue from operations surged 84.8% YoY to ₹27,369 crore. Net profit reached ₹1,017 crore, against a loss of ₹57 crore in the same quarter last year. The biggest signal? Gross refining margin improved to $8.78 per barrel, versus $3.22 a year earlier. That's the refining opportunity: Higher throughput → Better utilisation Better refining margins → Stronger profitability Operational efficiency → Better earnings potential The next chapter includes refinery modernisation, energy efficiency, digitalisation and deeper integration with IndianOil's energy value chain. But there's an important catch. Refining is a cyclical business. Crude prices, product cracks, inventory gains or losses, maintenance shutdowns and geopolitical disruptions can rapidly change profitability. One exceptional quarter does not guarantee repeat earnings. That's why investors must track refining margins and cash generation—not revenue alone. Chennai Petroleum is more than a crude-processing business. It's a play on refining efficiency, energy demand and the margin cycle. If operational performance stays strong and refining economics remain supportive, earnings could have room to surprise. Crude goes in. Value comes out. The refining cycle decides how much stays behind. 🛢️🔥
