A Climax Candle is an unusually large candle that appears after an extended directional movement and can indicate that the current trend is approaching a period of exhaustion. A bullish climax may occur after a prolonged rally when aggressive buying pushes price sharply higher, while a bearish climax may appear after a significant decline when sellers accelerate the move. Such candles are often accompanied by unusually high volume and increased volatility. The important concept is that extreme participation does not always mean continuation. When a large amount of buying or selling occurs after an already extended move, available participants may become exhausted, allowing the opposing side to gain control. However, a large candle should not automatically be considered an exhaustion candle. Traders need to examine its location, volume, wick structure and subsequent price action. If price continues strongly in the same direction after the climax, it may represent genuine momentum rather than exhaustion.
