Festive Hiring Set to Surge 15–20% in India as Retail, E-Commerce & Quick Commerce Gear Up

Temporary hiring across organised retail, e-commerce, quick commerce, logistics, FMCG and consumer durables is projected to rise by 15–20% during the 2026 festive season, according to TeamLease Services’ Festive Season Workforce Report 2026. With festive e-commerce GMV exceeding Rs. 1.2 lakh crore last season and quick commerce increasing its share of festive spending from 8% to 12%, companies are increasingly hiring specialised frontline workers to manage longer sale periods, faster deliveries and omnichannel demand. Frontline salaries are expected to grow by 8–10% in H2 2026, while effective take-home pay could rise by 5–8% amid labour law changes. Hiring is expected to be particularly strong across South and West India, with Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad emerging as key markets. Tier-1 cities are projected to account for 40.5% of the frontline workforce, while Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets are expected to contribute 26.5% and 33%, respectively. Warehouse pickers, packers and dark-store staff are likely to remain the largest hiring categories, alongside retail associates, promoters, cashiers and fulfilment executives. Growing demand for warehouse automation operators, inventory coordinators and returns specialists reflects the increasing sophistication of retail supply chains, while companies are using incentives, digital onboarding and cross-functional training to improve workforce retention and readiness.

TeamLease Services Latest Updates

TEAMLEASE
Financial Performance (Q3 FY26) In February 2026, TeamLease reported a significant 50% year-on-year increase in net profit, reaching ₹42.5 crore for the quarter ending December 2025. This growth was largely driven by a substantial rise in non-operating "other income" (₹23.7 crore vs. ₹8.7 crore sequentially). Total revenue saw a modest 4% growth to ₹3,036.7 crore, as the company faced a deceleration in revenue growth compared to previous years. Headcount Challenges & BFSI Impact The total headcount declined by 5% year-on-year to approximately 335,165. This reduction was primarily concentrated in the General Staffing and Degree Apprenticeship segments, largely due to a major client in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector opting for "insourcing" (bringing outsourced roles in-house). The company expects the full impact of this headcount loss to be absorbed by Q1 FY27. Specialized Staffing Growth While general staffing faced headwinds, the Specialized Staffing segment (IT and Global Capability Centers) showed strong momentum. This division grew by 30% year-on-year, adding a net total of 115 associates during the quarter. The company currently serves over 100 Global Capability Centers (GCCs), benefiting from the ongoing trend of multinational firms expanding their specialized technical operations in India. Compliance Research & Reports In March 2026, "TeamLease RegTech" released a strategic report highlighting the regulatory complexity facing India's GCC industry. The study noted that a typical GCC must manage over 2,000 annual compliance filings across 18 regulatory authorities. Additionally, the TeamLease "Career Outlook Report" for the first half of 2026 indicated that 73% of Indian employers intend to hire freshers, led by the retail and e-commerce sectors.
