In pharma, the strongest businesses don't just sell medicines. They build brands that doctors keep prescribing year after year. Torrent Pharma is building exactly that. FY26 showed the strength of the platform. Revenue reached ₹13,980 crore, up 21%, while operating EBITDA climbed 23% to ₹4,559 crore. Even excluding JB Pharma, the base business grew revenue 15% with a healthy 32.7% EBITDA margin. Now the bigger story is chronic therapies. Cardiology. CNS. Gastro. Diabetology. Women's healthcare. These aren't one-time purchases. They are recurring therapies where strong brands, doctor relationships and distribution can create durable revenue streams. Torrent already ranks among India's leaders across several of these segments. And then came JB Chemicals. The integration has expanded Torrent's domestic franchise and, according to the company's FY26 annual report, lifted the combined business to 5th position in the Indian pharmaceutical market, from 7th earlier. The international engine adds another layer. Torrent operates across 50+ countries, with particularly strong positions in markets including Brazil and Germany. And this isn't a business cutting back on innovation. FY26 R&D spending reached ₹650 crore, up 12%, showing continued investment behind future products and differentiated therapies. The formula is becoming powerful: Chronic therapies → Recurring demand Strong brands → Pricing power JB Pharma → Larger domestic platform Global markets → Geographic diversification R&D → Future product pipeline Of course, pharma isn't risk-free. Regulatory action, pricing pressure, product concentration, integration execution and US-market volatility can impact earnings. But Torrent's advantage is increasingly clear: A strong domestic franchise + chronic-care leadership + global presence + acquisition-led scale. The company isn't chasing every pharma opportunity. It's building depth where prescription demand can compound.

PHARMA SECTOR SHOWING SUPER STRENGTH AMID WEAKER MARKETS

One interesting trend in the current market is the relative strength being displayed by Pharma stocks. During the COVID period, Pharma stocks had a completely different story. Despite many companies having strong fundamentals and robust businesses, the sector witnessed significant selling and several quality Pharma stocks were beaten down heavily once the initial COVID euphoria faded. Fast forward to today — the scenario looks very different. While the broader market is facing pressure, several Pharma stocks are holding their ground and continuing to show strong price action. Stocks like Divi’s Labs, Laurus Labs, Torrent Pharma, Zydus Lifesciences, Sun Pharma and Lupin are among the names showing encouraging strength. For me, the important takeaway is not simply that Pharma is rising — it is that Pharma is showing strength when the broader market is weak. That kind of relative strength often deserves attention. When the market becomes volatile, sectors that refuse to participate in the downside can potentially become the leaders when market sentiment improves. Pharma is definitely a sector I would keep on the radar for momentum and swing-trading opportunities.

1. JB Chemicals merger — major structural trigger The JB Chemicals amalgamation became effective in July 2026. The combination substantially increases Torrent's India franchise and creates cost synergies. Management has raised its first-year JB cost-synergy expectation to more than ₹100 crore, above the earlier ₹90 crore target. 2. Strong India business India revenue grew 19%, significantly ahead of the Indian pharma market's ~12% growth. Torrent also became the market leader in cardiac therapies. 3. Semaglutide opportunity Torrent has launched Sembolic and Semalix, covering injectable and oral semaglutide for diabetes and obesity. Its semaglutide portfolio already achieved about 36% market share during Q1 FY27. This could become a meaningful long-term growth driver as India's obesity/diabetes treatment market expands. 4. International recovery US revenue increased 36% to ₹418 crore, helped by new launches and certain one-time opportunities, while Brazil grew 27%. Germany was weaker at +3% because of supplier disruptions and lower tender offtake. 5. Manufacturing/regulatory position Torrent's Bileshwarpura oncology facility received a zero-observation USFDA inspection in April 2026, which is a positive regulatory signal.

Zydus and Glenmark Top Pharma Growth Charts in August

us Lifesciences and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals delivered the strongest value growth among companies tracked by Nomura in August 2026, according to the brokerage’s September 8 note. The broader India pharmaceuticals market (IPM) expanded 10.7% year-on-year, supported by price hikes of 6.1%, new product launches contributing 3.5%, and modest volume growth of 1.1%. Nomura noted that after subdued years in 2024 and 2025, IPM growth has recovered to double-digit levels in 2026, helped by a low base, rising contribution from GLP-1 therapies, stronger demand in chronic segments such as cardiac and oncology, and solid traction in vitamins, minerals and nutrients (VMNs) as well as gynaecology. On a moving annual total (MAT) basis through August, Glenmark led with 14.9% year-on-year growth, followed closely by Torrent Pharma at 14.8% and Zydus at 14.1%.
