Ujjivan SFB: Deposit growth and asset quality matter

UJJIVANSFB
### Ujjivan SFB: Deposit growth and asset quality matter Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Limited (NSE: UJJIVANSFB) focuses on retail banking, including microfinance and other small-ticket loans. Its performance depends on credit demand, deposit mobilisation and borrowers' repayment capacity. **Why it matters:** Diversifying beyond microfinance can reduce concentration risk over time. However, unsecured lending exposure and borrower stress can increase credit costs and put pressure on profitability. **My view:** The key factor is whether Ujjivan can grow its deposit base while maintaining disciplined lending. Loan growth alone is not enough; asset quality, funding costs and the mix of secured versus unsecured advances will shape sustainable earnings. **What to watch:** Gross and net NPAs, credit costs, collection efficiency, deposit growth, CASA ratio, net interest margin and the share of secured loans. **Stance:** Improving asset quality and a more diversified loan book would strengthen the outlook. Track these alongside valuation before forming an investment view. Disclosure: I am a SEBI Registered Research Analyst. When a stock forms a bullish candlestick pattern

UJJIVANSFB
When a stock forms a bullish candlestick pattern at a trendline support zone, it indicates that buyers are becoming active at an important technical level where the price has previously received support. Patterns such as a Bullish Hammer, Bullish Engulfing, or Morning Star near an upward-sloping trendline can signal a possible reversal from support and continuation of the existing uptrend. If the bullish candle forms with strong volume and the next candles sustain the upward momentum, it strengthens the possibility of a move toward higher levels. However, traders should wait for confirmation, keep a stop-loss below the support zone, and monitor overall market trends and fundamentals, as trendline support can fail at any time

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Operating Performance

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Ltd

UJJIVANSFB
has reported a strong operating performance, marked by healthy growth across deposits, advances and disbursements. Total deposits increased 29.2% YoY to ₹50,649 crore, indicating sustained traction in deposit mobilisation and supporting the bank’s funding base. CASA deposits grew 22.2% YoY to ₹13,182 crore. While CASA growth remains healthy, it has trailed overall deposit growth, making the deposit mix and cost of funds important metrics to monitor going forward. On the lending side, the gross loan book expanded 32.1% YoY to ₹45,699 crore. A particularly encouraging development is the 47% YoY growth in the secured portfolio to ₹23,773 crore. This suggests that Ujjivan SFB continues to diversify its loan book towards secured products, which could gradually reduce its dependence on unsecured microfinance lending and improve portfolio resilience. Disbursements also remained robust, rising 33.1% YoY to ₹10,560 crore, providing a strong base for future loan-book growth. Asset-quality indicators, however, deserve close attention. Portfolio at Risk (PAR) stood at 3.57%, while GNPA was 2.10%. These levels should be tracked alongside credit costs and slippages to assess whether rapid loan growth is being achieved without compromising underwriting quality. Encouragingly, micro-banking collection efficiency remained very strong at 99.72%, indicating healthy repayment behaviour in the underlying portfolio. Overall, the numbers point to strong balance-sheet expansion, rapid secured-book growth and robust collections. The increasing share of secured lending is strategically positive, while asset quality, credit costs, CASA mix and funding costs remain the key monitorables for determining the sustainability and profitability of this growth trajectory.

Axis Bank Nifty Gainer September 3 Banking Sector Recovery

Axis Bank Limited

AXISBANK
was among the top three gainers in the Nifty 50 on Thursday, September 3, 2026, rising as the Sensex recovered from three straight sessions of losses after US President Donald Trump played down the prospect of a prolonged Iran conflict — directly easing crude oil pressure that had been the primary drag on financial sector sentiment through the week. Axis Bank Limited gaining alongside ICICI Bank and Adani Ports in Thursday's early trade confirms private banking's role as the primary beneficiary of any Iran-related risk-off reversal. Every session this week where crude spiked above $92 saw IT and FMCG lead while banks sold off. Thursday's reversal — with banking stocks gaining over 1 per cent across both PSU and private sector names — is the mirror image of that pattern playing out as Trump's comments reduced the immediate conflict premium in crude. Banking stocks benefited from an additional domestic catalyst on Thursday: fresh liquidity expectations following strong non-resident Indian deposits under the RBI's foreign-currency non-repatriable swap scheme. Both private-sector and state-owned banks advanced around 1 per cent in early trading on the NRI deposit inflow signal, which improves the liability-side funding position for Indian banks heading into the festive season credit cycle. Key metrics for Axis Bank: Q4 FY26 net profit of Rs 7,130 crore up 11.4 per cent year on year, gross NPA at a decade-low of 1.28 per cent, and 52-week range of Rs 995.40 to Rs 1,339.35. Axis Securities has flagged Axis Bank alongside ICICI Bank and Ujjivan SFB as its top banking sector picks with upside of up to 28 per cent from current levels.

UJJIVAN SMALL FINANCE BANK SHARES FALL 10% IN TWO SESSIONS

UJJIVANSFB
Shares of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank extended their decline, falling as much as 10 percent over the past two trading sessions. The stock had gained around 2 percent on Monday before coming under pressure following the bank’s announcement regarding the early retirement of its MD and CEO, Sanjeev Nautiyal. The bank said its board had approved Nautiyal’s request for early retirement on health grounds. Nautiyal will remain on leave from September 1, 2026, until the end of his notice period on November 30, 2026. However, he ceased to be the bank’s MD and CEO and Key Managerial Personnel with effect from September 1. Based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, the board has appointed Executive Director Carol Furtado as acting MD and CEO, effective September 1, subject to approval from the Reserve Bank of India. Furtado has been a key member of Ujjivan’s leadership team and played an important role in building the bank throughout its journey. Meanwhile, the board will begin the process of identifying Nautiyal’s successor and will submit its recommendation to the RBI in due course.
