CHENNPETRO
Cauvery Basin Refinery Project (CBRPL) Advancement: CPCL is actively pushing forward with its significant 9 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) Cauvery Basin Refinery Project in Nagapattinam. The project's capital cost has been revised to ₹36,400 Crore, and CPCL has formally sought renewed government approval for this updated cost and the revised ownership structure, where Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) will hold 75% and CPCL 25%. Land acquisition is nearing completion, and various engineering and tendering works are in progress. Strategic Entry into Retail Fuel Sales: CPCL is re-entering the retail fuel market after two decades, having received approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to set up its own petrol and diesel outlets. The company has earmarked ₹400 Crore for this initiative over the next two to three years, with the first phase of outlets expected to be launched during its Diamond Jubilee year. This move aims to diversify its operations and leverage its refining capabilities directly. Financial Performance & Manali Refinery Investments: For Q1 FY26 (ended June 30, 2025), CPCL reported a profit after tax of ₹139.98 Crore on a total income of ₹1,852.94 Crore. The company also plans significant capital expenditure, particularly for upgrading its Lube Oil Base Stock (LOBS) units at the Manali refinery, to produce higher-value premium lube base oils, showcasing continued investment in its existing assets alongside the new refinery project.
