SHOPERSTOP
Shoppers Stop is a premium-focused retail company operating department stores across fashion, beauty, footwear, accessories and other lifestyle categories. Its portfolio has increasingly moved toward premiumisation, while the beauty business and INTUNE format are becoming important growth engines. In Q1 FY27, department-store sales grew with 6% like-for-like growth, beauty sales increased 15%, beauty distribution grew 53%, and INTUNE sales rose 21%. The First Citizen loyalty programme had 13.8 million members and contributed 85% of sales, providing a substantial repeat-customer base.
FY26 revenue increased 9% to ₹5,043 crore, but the company remained loss-making at the consolidated level, with PAT of -₹36.1 crore. EBITDA was ₹767.8 crore, but high depreciation and interest costs of ₹540.7 crore and ₹313.2 crore respectively absorbed most of the operating profit. Q1 FY27 revenue increased 11.2% YoY to ₹1,291 crore and EBITDA rose 9.2% to ₹187 crore, while reported PAT remained negative at ₹14.3 crore. On a non-GAAP basis, management reported Q1 EBITDA of ₹43 crore and PAT of ₹5 crore, reflecting improvement in underlying profitability.
The important positive is that the business is showing better premiumisation, strong beauty growth, inventory reduction and debt reduction; management reported ₹93 crore of debt reduction during Q1 while opening eight new stores across department stores, beauty and INTUNE.
However, high depreciation and interest costs remain a structural challenge, and the company still needs to consistently convert EBITDA into positive consolidated PAT. Competition from Lifestyle, Reliance, Tata-owned formats and online platforms, along with rental costs and discretionary-consumption cycles, are key risks.
Overall, Shoppers Stop is a turnaround and premiumisation story: the operating indicators are improving, but sustainable net profitability and cash generation remain the key factors to monitor.#Post-ClosingCommentary#FundamentalViews#StockInNews#EquityResearch#HiddenGems
