Som Distilleries & Breweries is an Indian alcoholic-beverage manufacturer focused primarily on beer, along with IMFL products. Its portfolio includes established beer brands and the company has been expanding manufacturing capacity across India. Installed capacity has reached about 23 million cases through the company and subsidiaries, after tripling over the past five years.
The strategic expansion into Uttar Pradesh through Woodpecker Greenagri is important because it can diversify the company's geographic dependence on Madhya Pradesh and create a larger long-term production base.
FY26 earnings were affected by a difficult operating environment, and Q1 FY27 was particularly weak compared with the previous year's strong base. Consolidated revenue from operations in Q1 FY27 was ₹609.2 crore including state excise duties, down 31.1% YoY, while total income was ₹268.9 crore on the accounting presentation used by financial databases. EBITDA was about ₹15.2 crore and PAT only ₹1.56 crore, versus ₹42.1 crore PAT in Q1 FY26. Sequentially, however, the company recovered from the ₹56.7 crore loss reported in Q4 FY26. Management attributed the difficult quarter partly to operational disruption in Madhya Pradesh, while recovery in other markets and the commissioning of the new Uttar Pradesh brewery provide potential improvement avenues.
The long-term opportunity comes from capacity expansion, increasing IMFL contribution, stronger distribution and geographical diversification. The UP facility is particularly important because successful ramp-up could reduce dependence on a single state and provide access to a large consumer market. However, the latest numbers highlight substantial execution and regional-operating risk.
Overall, Som Distilleries is a capacity-expansion and turnaround-oriented consumer business, with the next phase dependent heavily on execution in UP and recovery of its core operations.#StockInNews#EquityResearch#HiddenGems#FundamentalViews#WatchOutFor
