Whirlpool of India Ltd — Stock Report

WHIRLPOOL
Business & Positioning Whirlpool India is a major player in the home appliances / consumer durables sector. It makes refrigerators, freezers, washing machines (top load, semi-automatic, front load etc.), and other “white goods.” The company has been pushing its premium product mix and focusing on innovation, quality, and stronger brand pull. Recent Financial Performance In FY 2024-25, Whirlpool India showed strong growth: its revenue from operations rose by about 16% compared to FY 2023-24. Profit Before Tax (before exceptional items) improved all around, as did margins. Net Profit (PAT) for the year increased by ~62%. In Q4 FY25, revenue was up ~15.6% YoY, net profit jumped ~50% to about ₹119 crore. Valuation & Key Metrics • The stock is trading at a relatively high P/E (around 41-48×), reflecting the growth expectations built into the price. • Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) is strong (~23%), though Return on Equity (ROE) trails that, showing that equity returns are somewhat dampened (by capital requirements, etc.). • Dividend yield is low (well under 1%), meaning the stock is more about growth than income. Strengths & Growth Drivers • Premiumisation: More consumers are moving to higher-end appliances, which helps margins. Whirlpool is trying to ride that trend with better-feature products and innovation. • Operational improvements: Cost productivity efforts, better gross margin management, and retail expansion/strengthened distribution are helping. Even regulatory cost burdens (like E-Waste rules) are being absorbed with limited damage. Risks & Weaknesses • Regulatory / cost headwinds: New regulations (e-waste, perhaps import duties, raw material costs) can impose extra expense or slow product launches. • Seasonality / competitive pressure: The sector is seasonal, cyclic, and competition from both large brands and low-cost / unorganised players remains intense.
