reported Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹780 crore, up 34.2% from ₹581 crore a year earlier.
Disbursements rose 18% YoY, and Gross Stage 3 loans fell to 2.43% from 2.81%.
What happened: The total loan book grew 12% YoY to ₹1.24 lakh crore. Management links the profit jump to higher net interest income and a lower provision burden.
Why it matters: Profit grew almost three times as fast as the loan book (34% against 12%). The company earned more on its loans and set aside less for bad ones. The 38 bps fall in Gross Stage 3 is the cleaner sign of quality, because it shows borrowers are repaying better.
My view: Lower provisions helped this quarter, and that is not a repeatable source of growth. Earnings only stay at this level if asset quality holds near 2.4%. Disbursements growing faster than the loan book (18% against 12%) points to loan book growth picking up, but the data does not say by how much. Management also expects festive-season demand to keep disbursements strong in H2 FY27.
What I am watching: Gross Stage 3 staying below 2.5% and disbursement growth holding near 18%. A rise in retail defaults in a slowdown, or tougher competition from banks in consumer lending, would weaken the case.
