Punjab & Sind Bank Q2 net profit up 39.5% to ₹410 crore
Punjab & Sind Bank (NSE: PSB)
PSB
reported standalone net profit of ₹410 crore for the quarter ended September 30, up 39.5% from ₹294 crore a year earlier.
Profit also rose from ₹331.51 crore in Q1. That is a sequential gain of about 23.7%. Both percentages are my calculations from the reported figures.
My view: a profit jump of this size needs a closer look at where it came from. Bank profit can rise on higher net interest income, lower provisions, treasury gains or tighter costs. The data I have does not split these. Two straight quarters of growth is a good sign. Without the breakdown, I cannot say how much of it will repeat.
Why it matters: Punjab & Sind Bank is a mid-sized public sector lender. Steady profit growth supports its recovery story among state-owned peers.
What I am watching next:
- Gross and net NPA ratios in the full filing. Slippages in retail or agriculture loans would hurt quickly.
- Net interest margin in the earnings call. A higher cost of funds could squeeze it.
- Credit growth and deposit trends.
