Transrail Lighting approved for NOPL Pace Green Energy stake
Transrail Lighting Limited (NSE: TRANSRAILL)
TRANSRAILL
has approved buying a 49% stake in NOPL Pace Green Energy for up to ₹20 crore. It also holds an option to raise that stake to 100% later.
What happened: The board cleared the stake purchase. The 100% route is an option, not an obligation. Definitive documents are expected within 180 days.
Why it matters: Transrail builds power transmission and distribution lines as an EPC contractor. This deal gives it a direct foothold in solar generation, which can feed future solar EPC and power evacuation work.
The operating base looks healthy. FY27 order intake is ₹2,429 crore so far, including recent wins of ₹408 crore. Phase 1 at Silvassa lifted conductor capacity by 70% to 40,800 km a year.
My view: The ₹20 crore outlay is small next to that order activity, so the cash at risk is limited. Buying 49% first lets the company watch how the project performs before paying for the rest. The trade-off is that full control could need more capital later, and the cost of the remaining 51% is not disclosed. Solar projects can also face commissioning delays and offtake or tariff risks.
What I am watching: signing of definitive documents within 180 days, new solar EPC and substation orders, and the ramp-up of the expanded Silvassa plant.
