Closing Bell: Sensex Drops 330 Points, Nifty Ends 23,350

Indian benchmark indices closed lower on September 22, extending weakness through the session as selling pressure in IT and select large-cap stocks weighed on sentiment. The Sensex declined 329.91 points, or 0.44%, to 74,529.08, while the Nifty slipped 85.30 points, or 0.36%, to 23,329, ending below the 23,350 mark. Among the key Nifty laggards, Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, Bajaj Finance and Grasim Industries faced notable selling pressure. Meanwhile, Coal India, InterGlobe Aviation, Eternal, Titan Company and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories were among the prominent gainers. Sectoral Performance Sectoral trends remained mixed. The Media index advanced 1%, while the Realty index gained 0.9%. In contrast, the IT index declined nearly 1%, emerging as one of the major drags. FMCG, PSU Bank, Pharma and Oil & Gas indices also ended around 0.5% lower. Broader Market The broader market also remained under pressure, with both the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 closing marginally lower. The mixed sectoral performance reflected cautious trading, with investors focusing on stock-specific developments and broader market cues. Overall, the session ended on a weak note, with the Nifty maintaining a cautious tone after slipping below the 23,350 level, while the Sensex remained under pressure from heavyweight stocks.
