Sensex Climbs Over 300 Points; Nifty Ends Near 23,150 After
Indian equity benchmarks finished higher on Friday after the closing auction session. The Sensex advanced 315 points, or 0.43%, to 73,896, while the Nifty gained 77 points, or 0.34%, to settle at 23,141. Market sentiment remained positive, with 2,180 stocks closing in the green against 1,962 stocks that declined. Sector-wise, auto and consumer durables led the gains, rising nearly 0.9% each. The realty index added 0.76%, while private bank stocks rose 0.45%. Meanwhile, IT, media, oil & gas and pharma sectors ended lower. In the broader market, the midcap index declined 0.14%, whereas the smallcap index edged up 0.15%. India VIX fell 4.33%, pointing to a decline in market volatility.
